I’m learning a method of single-thread couching to create letters. I’m following.a tutorial from Claire Voelkel-Sedlmeir. I bought some perle cotton (size 8) in a dark midnight blueberry colour. It’s much easier to work with for this type of stitching than embroidery thread or Sashiko thread because it’s tightly woven and a little bit slippery. This Tiny Quilt has a fine-wale corduroy on the back that’s very soft, and the same dark blue colour as the thread. I like this unbleached muslin as a background for text, but the thread shows through from the back. Hmm. It’s much easier (especially as a beginner) to write on a light colour of background fabric with an erasable marker. I don’t think it would work well to use chalk on dark fabric for this purpose. I’ve been looking into this paper as an option for making it possible to work with light thread on a dark background.

New skills: Working with perle cotton thread. This is my very first attempt at stitched lettering! More to come.
