Options!

I’ve decided to pause for a check-in after each set of 10 Tiny Quilts on the way to 100. Here’s what I’ve noticed so far…

• I prefer sewing machine piecing and hand quilting.

• There are four phases in the Tiny Quilt process:
  1. Design (choosing fabrics, colours, layout)
  2. Construction
  3. Decoration / quilting
  4. Binding / finishing

• The pace of making two Tiny Quilts each week is just right for me - it’s enough to feel like a consistent project, while still being enjoyable and possible to complete.

• I want to learn to write and draw with hand-sewing stitches - I’ve been thinking of choosing a thread colour as equivalent to deciding which marker or other drawing tool to use.

• I’ve confirmed the creative constraints for this project / my definition of a Tiny Quilt:
  12” square or smaller
  Must have three layers in the quilt sandwich and some type of quilting stitches
  Usually completed in a couple of days

• I’ve started to transcend right angles.

• I currently gravitate towards working with cool colours.

• Graph paper is very helpful in the process of playing with design options.

• I’m excited to post some books that I’ve been reading on quilting and related textile / fibre arts topics.

• I need to grow my fabric stash of small pieces of fabric that act as my collage materials for making quilts. I want to have little bits of a lot of different colours, organized in a way that I can find them easily.

• I encounter many sources of inspiration and new possibilities every week.
